Owner-operator Iain McPhail never intended to get in to the roofing business. His first love was joinery, and he would take any opportunity to sneak into the woodworking room at high school and work on his favourite project.

Then life happened, and Iain’s dreams of being a carpenter fell by the wayside, with all sorts of interesting experiences happening in the interim, including, among other things, a career as a butcher, and a pretty good one at that.

Iain has been in the roofing industry for over 20 years now, and DCM Roofing is a preferred contractor to the project management offices leading the Christchurch rebuild. He is proud to have his three sons working alongside him, and his ‘whole roof’ policy, where every aspect of a new roof is covered, from flashings to chimneys, spouting to scaffolding, has seen the company endure where others have gone by the wayside.

With the inception of DCM Building, Iain’s love for joinery has now come full circle, and he is delighted to be able to use his expertise, alongside his handpicked team of experienced and qualified tradesmen, to carry out the tricky building jobs that other chippies won’t touch. Iain himself was a fix-it guy for many years prior to establishing his roofing company, and he enjoys nothing better than analysing a problem and coming up with a solution for frustrated homeowners.

From relevelling kitchens to installing extractor fans, no job is too complex or too banal for Iain and his team. A qualified pilot who competes in aerobatics, DCM’s founder revels in the renovations that others won’t take on, and his favourite jobs are those that require a mix of different skills and the ability to think outside the box.
